McLean Mill National Historic Site

The McLean Mill National Historic Site is home to the only steam-operated sawmill in Canada. Visitors are transported back in time to the exciting era of the lumber industry in Port Alberni through sawing demonstrations, stage shows and historic buildings like the one-room schoolhouse. A cafe and banquet facilities are available on-site. The mill is located on forested land just 8 km (5 mi) northwest of Port Alberni.

Alberni Valley Museum

Explore the heritage of Port Alberni through photographs, artifacts and art items. Exhibits showcase the lumber and fishing industries, the Nuu Chah Nulth people and past events. The museum is open year-round from Tuesday through Saturday.

Maritime Discovery Centre

This museum tells the maritime tales of such west coast destinations as Alberni Valley, Alberni Inlet and Barkley Sound. The educational and hands-on exhibits change regularly. Open from mid June to early September. The Maritime Discovery Centre is located just south of Harbour Quay.
